We have welcomed five cria this year so far. Our first 2011 cria arrived in April. The second made her appearance the day before shearing in May. Both are stunning and race each other up and down the long pastures. Two more arrived before Jeanne left for Africa and the last waited for her return. We have been blessed with some stunning youngsters. We still await three more this fall.
As a new apprentice grader and sorter of alpaca fiber, I have been immersed in fiber and continued this trend into spring and shearing season, including live sorting on shearing day at various farms. Yes, I am one of those crazy people who just loves alpaca fiber, even when I am sorting it straight off the alpaca, dirt and all. I find it very exciting to see the character and possibilities for each fleece and to be able to teach breeders about their animals and how to make improved breeding decisions.
If you have fiber that you wish to have sorted in the Certified Sorted method, please contact me. I must fulfill requirements and sort many fleeces which will be checked carefully by my mentor, and you will be helping me to accomplish my certification.
